Man of the Match: Matt Peters
Frome Town extended their unbeaten league run under Darren Perrin to seventeen
matches as a late goal from Hulbert ensured that they brought all three points back
after a tough encounter in West London.
The match started without incident, and Frome took the lead in the 12th minute as a
right wing free kick from Lapham was won by Cheeseman in the opposing penalty
area, his header fell to Salter who drilled the ball back low and hard across the area
where Perrott slid in at the far post to guide the ball into the net.
Hayes went close two minutes later as a mix up between Henry and Lake led to the
ball breaking to Lovell who produced a shot that flew across the goal, narrowly
missing the far post as it went out of play.
In the 18th minute, Perrott produced a perfect through ball to Ballinger who made
ground on goal and unleashed a shot that the home keeper did well to parry, but the
ball broke loose to Lapham who somehow managed to shoot over the unguarded
goal from the edge of the penalty area.
Hayes equalised in the 25th minute as a corner was rolled along the ground to
Tomkins who produced a sweet sidefoot shot into the far corner of the net for a well
worked goal.
Frome again went close in the 34th minute as a Ballinger right wing cross was met by
a diving Salter header that brought a good save from the home keeper. The 42nd
minute saw a moment of controversy as a dangerous, high tackle by Tomkins on
Ballinger brought cries of protest from the visitors, but the referee only saw fit to
produce a yellow card for the challenge and Ballinger was able to continue after
treatment.
Frome regained the lead one minute into the second half as Perrott latched onto a
ball in the penalty area, producing a good turn and shot to fire home from close
range.
Hayes were awarded a dubious penalty in the 60th minute as Lovell seemed to run
into Cheeseman, bounced off and fell to the ground, allowing Tomkins to equalise
from the penalty spot.
After a quiet spell, Frome then started to look for the late winner and a golden chance
came in the 83rd minute as the home keeper failed to claim a right wing cross from
Lapham, the ball falling to Allison who blazed over the bar from the edge of the
penalty area.
Just as it looked as if time might be running out, a mix up in the home defence after a
Frome corner allowed the ball to fall to Hulbert who poked the ball home from close
range to the delight of the large travelling contingent. The remaining time passed
without incident, and the result allowed Frome to move into sixth place in the league,
equal on points with the two teams immediately above them.
Matt Peters was chosen as Man of the Match for another impressive display at the
heart of midfield.
