BRACKNELL TOWN 2 FROME TOWN 3
Frome Town picked up their first away victory of the season with a win at Bracknell
Town in a game of two very differing halves!
The Robins welcomed back central defender Callum Henry while there was also a first
start for new signing Luke Ballinger after his return from international duty with the
England Futsal squad.
Frome opened the brighter of the two teams even after a two hour coach journey but
it was the hosts who, against the run of play, had the first chance after 20 minutes as
Gary Sargeant headed over from close range after a mistake by Eric Laborieux. A
quick break a minute later almost saw Frome go ahead as a Simeon Allison cross
eluded everybody and Ballinger shot over from 10 yards when he should have done
better.
However it only took another 60 seconds for the deadlock to be broken as poor
defending by the hosts saw Alex Lapham win a challenge in midfield and played it
forward, the 'keeper spilt the pass and Allison lobbed the loose ball home from the
edge of the area into the unguarded net.
Frome were well on top and looking dangerous every time they went forward and
after 30 minutes another quick break saw Greg Lake plant the ball into the area
which Ricky Hulbert knocked back to Tom Piotrowski whose shot was beaten away by
Tom McNeill in the home goal.
Hulbert was then guily of an inexcusable miss after 40 minutes after a poor clearance
was headed back across the box by Iain Carr and with Hulbert and Ballinger
unmarked the striker shot high over the bar with the 'keeper already on the floor.
The Robins finally managed to get their second of the half right on the stroke of the
whistle as Piotrowski netted with a composed finish after chasing a hopeful ball down
field by Henry.
As good as Frome were in the first half the second half was a different affair as within
3 minutes of the re-start the hosts got a goal back as Sargeant headed home from
close range following a corner and moments later a long range dipping effort by
Michael Hector crept just over the bar with Dafyyd Jones back pedling.
Frome were weathering a great deal of pressure and manager Darren Perrin decided
the time was right to change things around with a double substitution as Matt Peters
and Matt Minnis came on with Piotrowski and Hulbert making way but they were
powerless to stop Bracknell from equalising as a horribly sliced Lapham clearance fell
right into the path of Sargeant who buried the chance to the delight of the home
bench.
The goal seemed to finally wake the Robins up again and with the hosts searching for
a winner Frome started to create chances of their own again and Ballinger set up
Allison whose effort went narrowly wide of the target.
Minnis was causing the home teams defence problems and it was his trickery and
strength that saw Town get the all important winning goal as he bustled down the
righ and crossed to Ballinger who smashed the ball home from close range for a
debut goal.
Minnis again was in the thick of the action as he set up another chance for Ballinger
but this time McNeill managed to get down and smother the effort.
Frome managed to hold on for the remainder of the game and came home happy with
three important points in the bag.
