48 hours after their hard fought success at Paulton, Frome were to encounter a tough
examination at third from bottom Cinderford Town.
After a ten minute delay due to an unsecured goal net, the hosts had most of the
early play against a tentative defence. Frome's Hulbert had a low shot turned past
the post by keeper Ben John and after Ballinger's effort was also dealt with, the
resulting corner led to a goal line clearance.
However Cinderford started to control the midfield battle, their best chance falling to
giant striker Lewis Sommers who ballooned over the bar on 32 minutes.
Having gone in scoreless at half time Frome almost took advantage when Hulbert
broke through on 55 minutes only to be thwarted by the home keeper .However for
the next half hour Frome had to contend with continuous pressure as Cinderford ran
at them at will. Saves, blocked shots and wayward shooting somehow kept the
scoreline blank until the referee pointed to the spot for an infringement by a Frome
defender. The resulting penalty from Ingram was saved by Pass but rebounded to
Ingram who had time to net the opening goal. Little changed as more attacking kept
Frome's defence at full stretch and after a late flurry of Frome corners came to
nothing the post came to the visitors rescue with three minutes to go.
As the Frome faithful started to consider the long unhappy trip home a last minute
attack saw the ball fall to Ballinger who produced a stunning 35yard strike that
rocketed past the home keeper to give Frome a fortunate point.
Tom Pass was awarded the Man of the Match award and Frome just maintained their
record of never having lost a midweek league fixture under Darren Perrin.
