Match Reports Season 2010 / 11 Saturday October 30th 2010 Abingdon Away Sat 30th October 2010 Zamaretto Southern League Division 1 (SW) Abingdon 1 Frome Town 4 Frome Scorers: Brigham (3p), White (7), (35) & (47) Abingdon Scorers: Gardner (11p) Crowd: 135 Entertainment Value: 4 Star Man: Darren White After a tough midweek fixture, Frome Town regrouped and produced an excellent performance at Abingdon, winning 4-1 thanks to a hat trick from man of the match Darren White. With both Jamie Cheeseman and Dean Evans suspended, recent signing Ryan Bennett started the match alongside Dean Flockton in the centre of defence, and Simeon Allison returned to the midfield in place of Evans. The match started at a frenetic pace, and Frome took the lead in the 3rd minute as White was brought down in the penalty area, allowing Josh Brigham to score his first goal for the club as he converted easily from the penalty spot. Frome went close again one minute later as Thomson broke on the left wing and pulled the ball back perfectly for Peters to shoot wide from the edge of the penalty area. The 7th minute saw Frome increase their lead as Perrott produced a perfect through ball for White to run onto, and as Beames came rushing out of the home goal, White just won the race and poked the ball under the advancing keeper for the second goal. However the two goal advantage only lasted 4 minutes, and Abingdon came back with a corner that allowed Carnell a header on goal that was cleared off the line by Allison for a corner, but as the second corner was swung in, Thomson was adjudged to have handled the ball and Gardner converted from the spot. Abingdon came close to equalising in the 20th minute as a long kick from Beames was played on by Harper to Mills, but his shot from the edge of the Frome area was hit straight at Chitty and Frome survived, as they did again 4 minutes later when Carnell again got his head to a corner, but this time the ball was cleared off the line by Peters. Frome increased their lead to 3-1 in the 35th minute as an excellent ball from Perrott found Allison in space on the right and his deep cross was met by White on the far post who headed cleanly home, and the score stayed that way until half time. Frome have recently developed a habit of starting the second half quickly and this match was no exception, as they took a 4-1 lead in the 47th minute as a Brigham cross into the box found the head of Perrott, he flicked the ball on and White was the first to react and headed the ball past Beames to complete his hat trick from 6 yards out. Abingdon almost reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute, and only a great double save from Chitty denied them a second goal, but Frome again went close in the 66th minute as Lapham shrugged off three challenges, found Thomson on the left, and his cross was met by the head of Perrott, only for Beames to save well and allow the ball to be scrambled for a throw in. The throw again found its way to Perrott and his goalbound shot was only diverted by a brave last ditch challenge. The 70th minute saw Frome go close again as Lapham again did well, finding Thomson on the left, and his low ball into the box saw White connect from 5 yards out, but this time the chance went wide. Jack Winter produced a curling shot from the edge of the area in the 75th minute that hit the home post, and Brigham and Thomson again combined in the 81st minute to set Perrett up for a shot that went just past the post, and Jordan was clean through in the 83rd minute but again the ball went wide of the post. An excellent performance from Frome and once again shows the "strength in depth" that the squad is now achieving. Darren White was awarded the man of the match award for an excellent hat trick.   Frome Town Abingdon Officials Match Sponsor xxx Billy Beechers Mark Barnes Rich Bourne Alan Foster xxx xxx xxx Match Ball xxx John Beames Sam Elkins Steve Davis Richard Pierson Luke Carnell James Organ Chris Harper John Gardner John Mills Anaclet Odihambo Matty Horsell
