Match Reports Season 2010 / 11 Saturday February 26th 2011 Almondsbury Town  Away Sat 26th Feb 2011 Zamaretto Southern League Div 1 (SW) Almondsbury Town 0 Frome Town 1 Frome Scorers: Ballinger (25) Crowd: 140 Entertainment Value: 4 Star Man : Mike Perrott Frome Town gained sweet revenge over the side that had recently halted their winning run as they came away with a 1-0 victory from Almondsbury thanks to a 25th minute goal from Luke Ballinger. With regular keeper Darren Chitty still suffering from an injury picked up during the week, Ed Quelch started his first Frome game for more than a couple of years, and the match started with Frome playing up a slight slope with a blustery wind not really favouring either side. The first quarter saw Almondsbury in the driving seat with the Frome defence kept busy, but it took until the 15th minute for the first chance of the game to arrive as former Frome striker Dean Griffiths brought a good low save from Quelch as he turned in the box and shot low towards the corner. Frome were having trouble making any headway into the Almondsbury half at this stage, but their first real attack of the game in the 25th minute led to a goal as Evans won the ball well in midfield, played a 1-2 with Lewis, ran into the box and rolled the ball to Thomson who then teed up Ballinger who stroked the ball cleanly home from 15 yards for a very coolly taken goal. Brigham had to be alert to deny Almondsbury a couple of minutes later, but then Frome very nearly doubled their lead as Lewis sent Thomson away on the left wing and a good run saw him get to the dead ball line and pull the ball back for Ballinger to just be denied a second by a deflection that took the ball just past the post. As the half drew to a close, Frome entered their best spell of the match and several times attacks led to half chances, but on the stroke of half time Quelch just managed to get fingertips to an inswinging corner that prevent an Almondsbury attacker from heading in at the far post. The last time these sides met, Frome also led 1-0 at half time, but then Almondsbury scored 4 goals in quick succession at the start of the second half, but this time it was Frome that looked the more positive as the match re- started, and the first quarter saw Frome spend most of the time in the Almondsbury half. However, a 64th minute Almondsbury free kick led to a header at the far post that Quelch did well to palm away for a corner. As the match ebbed and flowed, a good through ball from Evans found Lewis in space in the 68th minute, and a quick left foot shot brought a good save from Jones in the home goal. At the other end, Quelch again did well to just tip an Almondsbury free kick over the bar as he was falling backwards Ballinger was causing the home defence problems on the right wing, and a couple of times he found space, but the first time his low cross / shot hit the side netting and the second time the shot flew over the bar. Quelch again tipped the ball over the bar from range as Almondsbury looked for the equaliser in the 84th minute and substitute White was pulled back by a defender who had been left for pace 87th minute, but Frome looked fairly comfortable as the half wound down and in the end the 1-0 scoreline just about did the match justice, though Almondsbury would probably have felt that a draw would have been the better result. So, even though goals are in short supply at Frome at the moment, that now makes six matches unbeaten for Frome, with two consecutive away victories in the last two games which bodes well for making the play offs at the end of the season. Mike Perro tt was chosen as the man of the match for a  hard working perfomance in midfield.      Frome Town Almondsbury Officials Josh Klein Davies Todd Winter Stuart Nelson David Anyinsah Lee Matthews D Ricketts S Glyde J MIzzi Stuart Jones Tom Warren Ben Wilshire Scott Brice Marcus Mapstone Nick Dunn Ross Stearn Matt Thorne Dean Griffiths Jack Pitcher Mike Whittington
