Match Reports Season 2010 / 11 Saturday April 2nd 2011 Gosport Borough Away Saturday 2nd April 2011 Zamaretto Southern League Div1 (SW) Gosport Borough 1 Frome Town 0 Gosport Scorers: Cox (14) Frome Scorers: None Crowd: Star Man: Ryan Bennett Entertainment Value: 2 After their heroics at Mangotsfield on Monday, Frome Town looked a little jaded as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Gosport, the only goal of the match coming from Cox in the 14th minute. Frome included new signing Jack McKenna in midfield in the starting line up, and were the first out of the blocks in the 4th minute as Evans latched onto a Perrott through ball, pulled the ball back to McKenna, but his cross was just cleared by a defender at the near post with the home goalkeeper way out of position. The 7th minute saw a stinging 25 yard volley from Gosport's Wilde that had the entire home contingent shouting for a handball by Frome's Flockton, but nothing was given.  The 11th minute saw a fine passing movement from Frome as Reaney broke from defence, then Thomson's pace saw him go clear on the left, his cross was chested down by Hulbert only for Perrott to blaze the ball over the bar from the edge of the area. Gosport's goal arrived in the 14th minute as Frome failed to clear their lines just outside the penalty area and Cox struck a fine shot that really gave Pass no chance in the visitor's goal. Frome should really have equalised in the 22nd minute as Perrott flicked on a Brigham throw, but Evans got completely under the ball and blazed over the bar from a point close to the penalty spot. Gosport had a similar chance from a similar position three minutes later, but this time it was Cox who managed to miss the target from around 1o yards out. The last real chance of the half came in the 28th minute as Frome's Thomson volleyed from 30 yards, only for the ball to be superbly tipped over the bar by Hards in the home goal. The second half took a while to get going, and it took until the 80th minute for the first chance to arrive as a superb Reaney cross was flapped at by Hards, the ball ended up with Brigham and his low drive was just deflected and cleared by the defence.  Controversy erupted one minute later as substitute White was clean through into the Gosport area, but was floored  by a two handed push from behind by defender Castle, but the referee bizarrely awarded a corner leaving the away supported shaking their heads with amazement. As the minutes ticked away, Frome went looking for the equaliser, but the tactics left them exposed at the back and Gosport looked more likely to increase their lead. Gosport's Cox was put clean through by Wilde in the 90th minute, but shot straight at Pass, then Bennett had two chances in the last few minutes, the first blazing over the bar, and the second being denied by a superb last ditch tackle from Flockton. Ryan Bennett was chosen as Frome's man of the match, and the squad are due to return to Hampshire on Tuesday night for what should prove to be an entertaining encounter with Sholing FC.      Frome Town Gosport Officials Ryan Ferguson Jack Preece, Dan Woodward Ian Heather Tom Brown J Pike R Erguvem M Tasker Alex Hards Steve Gilbert Dan Wooden James Ford Peter Castle Aaron Cooke Ian Jones Patrick Cox Nat Lynch Justin Bennett Adam Wilde Match Sponsors xxx
