It was hot, it was dusty and it was hard, but Frome Town produced another excellent performance at Hungerford Town to deny the hosts the points they so obviously wanted in their quest for a playoff place, and came away with a hard fought 1-0 victory thanks to a 6th minute goal from Ricky Hulbert. With captain Jamie Cheeseman playing his first match since recovering from a recent car crash, the match kicked off with Frome playing up the slope and they had to survive early pressure from Hungerford as they won a succession of corners. This they did, and they took the lead with their very first attack of the game in the 6th minute as a left wing cross found its way to Perrott who volleyed the ball hard into the ground from the edge of the penalty area, the ball bounced up invitingly and Hulbert reacted very quickly to volley the ball home from 10 yards and give Frome a 1-0 lead. Frome almost increased their lead two minutes later as a high lobbed ball into the box was back headed by Evans, and Foster was only just able to scramble the ball past the far post for a corner. Hungerford now came back into the match with a vengeance, and the Frome defence had to be really alert to deal with the high crosses and corners being thrown at them, but they held out well, and Hungerford's first real chance came in the 31st minute as a Gosling free kick fizzed just past the far post, with Pass scrambling across his line to cover. Hungerford's Leacock saw a 30 yard effort just clear the crossbar in the 35th minute and Pass produced a superb save in the 37th minute to tip a shot from Wallace over the crossbar. On the stroke of half time, Frome's McKenna and Brigham combined well to enable McKenna to run into the box, but Foster was able to gather the ball at the last minute. At half time, the travelling support were well pleased with the scoreline, and the second half started with few incidents until the 59th minute when Cheeseman only just managed to get to Wallace, but the striker still got his header away and Pass made a good save to push the ball round the far post. The corner led to another good save as Pass tipped a 20 yard screamer over the bar, and Frome still held onto their slender advantage. After a flare up in the 65th minute that saw Bennett and Johnson booked, Frome had three good chances in 5 minutes, with Osman breaking clean through and bringing a save from Foster from 10 yards, then McKenna again troubled Foster as a short corner led to a shooting opportunity in the box, but the best of the three was an Evans left foot volley that was heading for the far top corner until Foster brought off an excellent save to push the ball out for a corner. As the match headed towards the final whistle, Hungerford stepped up the pressure, and two brave blocking tackles by the Frome defence in the 84th minute saved the day, and finally, with 5 minutes of extra time having been played, Tom Pass produced the save of the day as he flung himself low across the goal line to just get his fingers to a low, hard 20 yard shot that was destined for the corner of the goal. So, a very good, hard fought result for Frome, with Paulton Rovers at home on Monday, and the first leg of the playoffs at Mangotsfield on Thursday, the team are looking like they're ready for the challenge. Tom Pass was awarded the man of the match award after a very steady performance sprinkled with excellent saves at crucial times .           Frome Town Hungerford Officials Diak John Adam Cashin Murray Matty Day Tom Browne C Wicks C Boyles J Vallance James Foster Jamie Leacock Chris Blackford Jon Boardman Simon Herbert Scott Davis Dave Asker Jamie Gosling Adam Wallace Jemel Johnson Ryan Crockford Match Sponsors xxxxx Match Ball xxxxxxx
