Frome Town made it seven league wins on the bounce thanks to a brace of goals from
Darren White, but they had to endure a stern second half examination from North Leigh to
come away with all three points.
On a picturesque pitch, Frome started the match kicking up the slope and they made most
of the early running as Thomson started making inroads on the left wing and producing
crosses for White and Cheeseman in the 11th and 17th minutes that led to half chances,
However North Leigh came back and a 21st minute free kick just outside the Frome box led
to some desperate defending and a couple of corners in quick succession.
Frome survived however, but were unlucky to go one down in the 23rd minute as a
seemingly harmless low cross from the left saw the sliding Flockton just get a toe to the ball
but gently slide it past the wrong footed debutant Frome keeper Bohry and into the net.
White did well for Frome in the 34th minute as he produced a good left foot shot that
brought a save from Lonsdale, but he was quick to react and produced a chipped cross onto
the head of Toby Osman but the chance was put well over the bar at the far post. Evans
produced a powerful header on goal in the 38th minute, but it was White who equalised in
the 41st minute as he climbed highest to head down a Thomson right wing corner into the
goal, for a well taken goal.
Frome went close at the start of the second half with both Osman brothers having deflected
shots over the bar, and from the corner that resulted from the second chance, the ball came
out to the unmarked Flockton who just failed to keep his volley on target.
North Leigh then started to turn up the pace of the game and Bohry did well in the 55th
minute to produce a double save in quick succession, and eight minutes later he dealt well
with an awkward skidding shot that had to be watched very carefully. The 66th minute saw
desperate defending from Frome as three corners saw Cheeseman clear off the line and
numerous shots blocked, with Bohry eventually claiming the ball and calming things down.
At this stage it was looking ominous for Frome, but then Thomson performed a miracle to
just get to a pass that looked to be going over the deadball line, pulled it back to White who
had the presence of mind to control the ball, turn inside his marker and hit a right foot shot
that flew into the far corner off the underside of the bar to give Frome the lead.
North Leigh kept on taking the game to Frome, and the pace increased, the tackles started
to bite. The 80th minute saw a melee after a nasty foul by Posey on Frome's Lake that
initially saw a stretcher being called for, but eventually Lake was able to leave the field with
assistance, being replaced by Smith.
The last 15 minutes saw the game turn into an end to end affair, with Frome snapshots
going past the post in the 86th minute and North Leigh blazing shots over the bar twice in
the last three minutes, but Frome hung on with resolute defending and brought all three
points back to Somerset.
Darren White was chosen as man of the match for the well taken two goals that made all
the difference.
