Match Reports Season 2010 / 11 Tuesday  April 5th 2011 Sholing Away Tuesday 5th April 2011 Zamaretto Southern League Div1 (SW) Sholing 2 Frome town 1 Frome Scorers: Ballinger   (68p) Sholing Scorers: Bowers (29), Wort (44) Entertainmant Value: 4 Star Man: Dean Flockton Missing several regulars, Frome Town travelled to second placed Sholing, and although they lost the match 2-1, the performance showed that should the two teams meet in the play offs this season, then the outcome is by no means a certainty.  Frome started brightly, with their first chance coming in the 5th minute as an excellent ackle from Evans led to Ballinger being set free on the right but then being taken down 25 yards from goal. Thomson hit the free kick into the wall, but volleyed the rebound hard back towards goal, with the shot being bravely deflected by the face of Sholing’s Camfield., Sholing always looked dangerous, and only a superb last ditch tackle by Flockton on Wort denied the striker a clear shot on goal after he had been put through by McLean. Three minutes later and Frome’s full back Mark Cooper let rip with a 35 yard shot that crashed against the Sholing cross bar, but then rebounded to safety. Sholing came back and the 24th minute saw Tom Pass deny Wort as he managed to deflect the shot round the post, but then Sholing took the lead in the 30th minute as Bowers produced a stunning 30 yard free kick that flew into the net for a superb opening goal. Frome refused to lie down, and in the 36th minute an inswinging McKenna corner was missed by Hookway, and as Cooper let fly, the ball was blocked by the hand of a Sholing defender, but for the second game running, nothing was given for what appeared to be a totally valid penalty appeal. One minute later, and another McKenna corner found the head of Bennett, but his goalward header was deflected behind for another corner. Chris Lewis let fly from 30 yards with a low shot that Hookway had to watch carefully, and then Pass had to be alert to deal with a cross from Barry Mason with Gibbens lurking dangerously for any fumbles. Just as it looked like half time would arrive with the narrowest of leads to Sholing, Hookway dealt easily with a Peters cross and launched a breakaway attack that saw Wort easily break clear of the defence and shoot home to make it 2-0 to Sholing. The 50th minute saw a classic move from the hosts that Marden clear the ball to McLean who then produced a crossfield ball that Barry Mason superbly volleyed against the Frome bar, but they survived, came back at the home side and were rewarded with a goal in the 68th minute as Ballinger was fouled in the penalty area, allowing him to pick the ball up and score with a very well hit low shot into the corner of the goal. As the game approached the final few minutes, Frome had their best spell of the match and were bombarding the Sholing defence, but they had to be alert as the hosts always looked dangerous on the break, but never really put the final touches to the moves. All in all, this was a good performance from Frome, especially in the second half, and they showed that should the two sides meet in the playoffs, then  it could be very interesting, especially if the home manager continues with his slightly disparaging remarks about Frome in the local press. Dean Flockton was chosen as man of the match for yet another outstanding display at centre back.      Frome Town Sholing Officials Jamie Austen Nick Watts Ryan Ashford Danilson Vicente, Lee Webber S Rea S Woodison M Sennett Mike Hookway Mike Carter Dave Marden Adam Camfield Lee Bright Tyronne Bowers Barry Mason Byron Mason Kevin Gibbens Lee Wort Marvin McLean Match Sponsors xxx
