Match Reports Season 2010 / 11 Saturday February 12th 2011 Thatcham Away Sat 12th Feb 2011 Zamaretto Southern League Division 1 (SW) Thatcham Town 0 Frome Town 0 Crowd: 82 Entertainment Value: 2 Star Man: Josh Brigham. With two of the tightest defences in the league coming up against each other, goals were going to be hard to come by in this match, and so it proved as Frome and Thatcham cancelled each other out in a match that produced very few chances. Frome were able to the include Jamie Cheeseman and Josh Brigham back into side after suspension, but with Greg Lake suffering a hamstring injury during the week, Jack Winter started the match at left back. The first quarter of the match saw Frome staring brightly, with Cheeseman coming up for set pieces and generally causing problems in the Thatcham defence, and on four or five occasions, half chances were produced but the final touch or shot was always off target, with Cheeseman probably having the best chance on 20 minutes as headed a Brigham throw over the bar from 10 yards out. The 23rd minute saw Thatcham have their first shot of the game as Thomas shot wide after a corner, and Frome's Ballinger and Peters both volleyed over the bar from distance shortly afterwards. The match failed to find any real pattern for the rest of the half and the last stroke of the half saw Ballinger just fail to get a header on target as a good Thomson cross found him at the far post. The second half again saw Frome start brightly, with Lewis setting Ballinger loose twice in the first few minutes, but both times tackles led to corners. As the half settled, both sides had periods where they looked dangerous, but the defences were always on top and the final ball or shot was always lacking or off target. Thatcham came closest to scoring in the 80th minute as a flicked header needed Chitty to arch backwards and palm the ball over the bar to deny them the goal, but in truth the game needed a goal to liven it up and it never really looked like happening. Frome now have to re-discover their scoring touch, as this is now the fourth game in a row without a goal being scored from normal play, and although the defence remains one of the best in the league, without goals, you can't win games. Hopefully the flood gates will burst against Taunton next Saturday. Josh Brigham was chosen as man of the match for another solid performance at right back and in supporting midfield.     Frome Town Thatcham Officials Mascots Sam Tucker James Clark Mario Nurse Lee Stevens A Bird S Tobin M Niemirski Paul Strudley Mark Hughes Will Bratt Matt Bowler Gareth Thomas Robbie Sadler Aaaron Parfitt Scott Rees Charles Mpi Sean Cook Paul Taplin
