With Greg Lake still injured and Josh Brigham suspended for one match, Darren Perrin started with Jack Winter at right back and Mike Reaney carrying on the impressive form he showed at left back against Sholing in the week. The game started fairly slowly, with both sides sparring in midfield and, as the half progressed, some feisty battles started to develop across the pitch. The first chance of note came in the 25th minute as White beat the offside trap to collect the ball in the Thatcham penalty area, but perhaps not realising how much time he had, he squared the ball rather than turning and shooting and the chance slipped away. Frome were definitely taking the game to Thatcham for most of the first half, but were having trouble finding the final ball that caused problems, and the tall Thatcham defence were dealing quite easily with every cross in the air that came their way. Winter and Perrott were combining well on the right wing, but the best chance probably came in the 36th minute as Osman did well to pull the ball back to Evans who then squared it to Perrott whose deflected shot spun off a defender for a corner. The Thatcham defence had been expressing their feelings towards the officials for most of the first half, and as the game started to get niggly and tackles started to fly, two yellow cards for Thatcham defenders just before the break calmed a situation that was looking like it might get out of hand at one point. Frome started the second half in the best possible way as a Thomson corner was flicked on at the near post by Perrott, the ball flying to Cheeseman who volleyed home sweetly from 10 yards to give Frome the lead in the 47th minute, much to the delight of the good sized crowd. White almost increased Frome's lead 6 minutes later as an Evans header set him free, but Strudley did well in the visitor's goal to produce a double save low at the near post to deny the prolific striker. After a brief period of intense Thatcham pressure in the 67th minute, White was again involved as Frome increased their lead in the 70th minute. This time he won a ball that he had no real chance of getting, left his marker floundering and accelerated into the box , drawing three defenders towards him, he looked up and produced the perfect pass to Perrott who immediately laid the ball into the path of Ballinger who calmly chipped the ball over Strudley to complete a classic goal. At 2-0 up, Frome pretty much closed the game down, and although Thatcham had periods of pressure, they never really looked like scoring and apart from a Chitty save from a 25 yard shot in the 89th minute, the defence once again showed how good they have become at defending a lead. Jamie Cheeseman was chosen as man of the match and was present with the award by representatives of Alfex Electrics who had sponsored the match .    Frome Town Thatcham Officials Match Sponsor Alfex Electrical Paul Orgad Craig Hill Danny Williamson Lee Stevens Marc Piper D Woolford C Hubberd A Linford Match Ball xxxx Paul Strudley Will Bratt Paul Taplin Matt Bowler Mark Hughes Gareth Thomas Scott Rees Sam Tucker Graham Lewis James Clark Arron Parfitt Mascots FTFC Under 7s Connor Greenam
