Darren Perrin included three new signings in the starting line up, with Jack Winter and Mike Perrott both returning to the club in the last week, and Max Etheridge started at centre forward after his recent signing from Evesham. After a frantic opening, the first incident of note came in the 6th minute as a long Chitty kick was headed back by a Willand defender, but Cann was out of position and only just managed to prevent the ball going into the net at the second attempt. In the 11th minute, Frome's Lake provided a perfect left wing cross onto the head of Cheeseman, allowing Thomson a snapshot that just cleared the bar. As the match progressed, Willand tended to get a grip on midfield and were very quickly closing down on any Frome player with the ball, and the only chance of note came in the 35th minute as Cheeseman got his head to a free kick and was able to volley the ball as it came down, but the shot just cleared the crossbar from 18 yards. Controversy erupted in the 39th minute as Cheeseman was caught by a very late tackle from Willand's Danny Jee just as he was clearing the ball, leaving the big defender in agony on the ground and provoking an angry reaction from home crowd and players. When the dust settled, the referee showed Jee a straight red card, and the sending off led to Frome's best period of the match. The 43rd minute saw a Brigham right wing cross just headed over the bar by Thomson, and the one minute later, Frome took the lead as Jordan jigged his way to the dead ball line, pulled the ball back for Thomson, but his close range shot only hit the inside of the Willand post and then rolled back along the goal line for Perrott to force the ball over the line from very close range. At 1-0 up and against ten men, the crowd expected Frome to dominate in the second half, but Willand had other ideas and they packed the midfield, played a high defensive line and generally played the game in Frome's half. Willand's Hawes produced a header in the 54th minute that was just palmed for a corner by Chitty, and another header went just past the Frome post in the 77th minute. Frome were struggling to get hold of the ball for any length of time, and it took until the 83rd minute for the first Frome attack of the second half to take place, as Thomson ran at the defence, and eventually received the ball back, enabling him to bring a good save from Cann as he produced a 15 yard volley that was heading for the net. As the minutes ticked away, Willand pressed higher and harder, but the rule seems to be that if Frome score, they go onto win, and the defence again dealt with everything that Willand could throw at them and eventually the home fans were pleased to hear the final whistle, and Frome go into the draw for the next round.
