Saturday January 7th  2012 Banbury Home Saturday January 7th 2012 Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Frome Town 0 Banbury Utd 1 Frome Scorers: None Banbury Scorers: Blake (26p) Crowd: 257 Entertainment Value: 3 Star Man: Darren Chitty Missed chances and a stray hand in the penalty area consigned Frome Town to a frustrating defeat, as a lively Banbury Utd side took away all three points in a game that could have gone either way, but ended up extending Frome's  wait for a home victory to more than three months. Frome were very slow to get going and only a last ditch tackle by Tom Evans prevented a goal after 22 seconds, Ricky Johnson headed a free kick over the Frome bar in the 6th minute and then Simeon Williams shot wide a minute later as Frome struggled to get into the match. But they did get going, and Luke Ballinger brought a save from Andy Kemp after being teed up by Shaun Benison and Frome should really have taken the lead in the 14th minute as the unmarked Benison managed to shoot wide from 5 yards out with only Kemp to beat. Matt Smith headed a Ben Thomson free kick wide in the 22nd minute and then a long Josh Brigham throw allowed a close range shot that Kemp did well to smother, but then Banbury took the lead in the 26th minute as a needless handball by Dean Flockton led to a penalty awarded to Banbury. Darren Chitty has proved himself to be a penalty save expert recently, but no keeper in the land could have saved this one as  Josh Blake perfectly placed a left foot shot into the top corner. Chitty saved well at close range from Glenn Walker in the 34th minute after the ball had been headed down to him, and then three minutes later a Frome corner gave Matt Smith two shooting chances from close range, with Kemp doing well to save the first, and a defender blocking the second. At the home goal end, Chitty again had to be alert to deny Blake and Johnson headed the resulting corner over the bar to leave the score 1-0 to Banbury at half time Frome brought on Dean Evans and Ricky Hulbert in the 57th minute and the two combined a minute later as Evans crossed from the left for Hulbert to flick the ball towards goal, but the effort was cleared. Mike Perrott volleyed just past the post from distance in the 69th minute, but two minutes later Chitty was forced to save bravely at the feet of Walker as the game went from end to end. Mike Reaney went very close for Frome in the 77th minute as he ran with the ball and unleashed a powerful right foot shot that just shaved the outside of the far post, but then Chitty was called into action three times in five minutes as Banbury began to look like the might increase their lead with fast, dangerous  counter attacks. Frome's  best chances to level the match came in the 91st minute, as first a deflected Luke Ballinger volley was just pushed over the bar by Kemp, and then Tom Evans rose high above everyone else but headed just wide from the resulting corner. Darren Chitty was awarded the man of the match award by representatives of Raves from the Grave who sponsored the match and have been supporting the Club for many seasons now. .    Frome Town Banbury Andy Kemp Joe Coleman Ben Polk Liam Dolman Ben Thackery Liam Richardson Simeon Williams Josh Cole Ricky Johnson Josh Blake Glenn Walker Tommy Kinch Danny Edmond Dan Chitton Paul Lamb Officials R: M Lawrence A: R Cockle A: N Brimming Match Sponsor Raves from the Grave Ball Sponsor Andrew St John Match Photos Photos of this match taken by our expert photographer Chas Hadfield can be viewed by clicking on this rectangle
