After Frome's huge victory at Cambridge on Saturday, a huge crowd of 605 turned up for this eagerly anticipated match, and after the initial, even opening exchanges, Chippenham took an early lead in the 6th minute as a right wing cross was whipped in without too much danger, but Frome defender Josh Brigham seemed to go low and attempt to chest the ball clear, only to present it to Jack Pitcher who easily drove the ball low into the corner of the net giving Darren Chitty no chance. The 13th minute saw Frome go very close as a right wing corner was flicked on at the near post by Brigham, Jamie Cheeseman then seemed to get a touch, the ball seemed to flick the cross bar and come down into the goalmouth only for a Chippenham defender to clear the ball. The Frome players all appealed that the ball had crossed the line, but the linesman was well placed and gave nothing. Toby Osman went close for Chippenham in the 16th minute with a diving header at the far post, but then the match settled with Chippenham looking composed in midfield and defence, and Frome waiting for a spark to ignite their game and start troubling the Chippenham defence. Cheeseman went so close to scoring an own goal in the 32nd minute as he got his head to a driven free kick, but the ball thankfully grazed the outside of the post and went for a corner, but in general, chances were few and far between, with Frome's main attacking options coming from Brigham's long throws from the right hand side. At half time, the 1-0 score line was just about right, and the second half started with Frome struggling to make an impression and desperate for for someone to provide the inspiration to get the crowd and the team to move up a gear. The 51st minute saw a long range Chippenham shot thud against Chitty's near post, but in general, Chippenham seemed content to close down the midfield and sweep up at the back, which they did to great effect. As the minutes ticked away, Frome replaced Luke Ballinger and Ricky Hulbert with Matt Smith and Shaun Benison, and at times it seemed as if things were starting to happen, but all too often the final ball into the centre was cleared up by the commanding Nathan Rudge or Will Puddy in the visitor's goal. A Mike Perrott challenge on Ross Stearn in the 76th minute sparked off a melee that lasted several minutes and resulted in a yellow for Perrott, and as the free kick was taken, something else happened on the right hand side of the Frome penalty area and it all kicked off again. As the dust settled, the referee consulted the linesman, and then pointed to the spot and Alan Griffin comprehensively drove the ball low into the corner of the net to give Chippenham a two goal cushion. Frome's best chance of the match fell to Shaun Bennison in the 87th minute as a Lapham free kick ricocheted around in the Chippenham area before falling to the unmarked Bennison who blazed way over the bar from 10 yards out. It just wasn't going to happen for Frome today, and in the end Chippenham were well worth their win and showed that all the games in this division are going to be tough to play in and to predict the outcome. Frome's central defender Dean Flockton was chosen as the Man of the Match by Frome's vice chairman Terry Wolff who had sponsored the match..
