Saturday September 24th 2011 Redditch Home Saturday September 24th 2011 Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Frome Town 3 Redditch 2 Frome Scorers: Ballinger (33), Hulbert (66), Smith (86) Redditch Scorers: Robinson (10), Deards (15) Crowd: 220 Entertainment Value: 5 Star Man: Matt Smith After going behind to two early goals, Frome Town dug deep and produced an excellent performance of grit and determination to win the game 3-2 with a late goal from Matt Smith. After an even  start, with Frome looking the more positive of the two sides, Redditch opened the scoring in the 10th minute as the unmarked Tesfa Robinson headed home at the far post following a free kick. Frome went close two minutes later as Luke Ballinger put Kyle Tooze though, but his toe poked shot was just scrambled away for a corner. Redditch doubled their lead in the 15th minute as a right wing cross from the dead ball line was was easily headed home at the far post by the unmarked Conner Deards. These two goals seemed to knock Frome’s confidence, and with Redditch looking physically stronger and comfortable going forward, Frome began to look like they need some inspiration to go with their perspiration, and it duly arrived in the 33rd minute as Luke Ballinger received the ball with his back to goal, marked by two defenders and five yards outside the area. He controlled it, turned, found a yard and curled a right foot shot round Jake Bedford into the top corner of the net for a strong contender for “goal of the season”. Frome’s confidence was visibly lifted by this goal, and they looked far more composed after it, with things starting to happen in midfield and Redditch knocked out their stride. At half time, the crowd could sense that with a bit of luck Frome could well get something from this match. The second half was all about Frome , and the first ten minutes saw Frome attacking on both wings and generally causing the Redditch defence problems, but producing no clear cut chances. A clever from the left from Ben Thomson saw Matt Smith produce a header that was claimed just under the bar by Bedford, and Darren Perrin gambled in the 64th minute by bringing on two forwards and playing with a left back for the remainder of the match. The equaliser arrived in the 66th minute as Matt Smith and Mike Perrott combined to produce a perfcet short through ball and Ricky Hulbert shot home into the corner of the net from close range for a very cool strikers finish. Shortly afterwards, Redditch’s Joe Harris was shown a straight red for an incident that left Josh Brigham on the floor, with some in the crowd suggesting that a punch had been thrown . Certainly there was no complaint from Redditch and the referee made the decision with no hesitation. As often happens, a sending off disrupts the flow of the game, and Frome lost a bit of momentum after this, with Redditch probably looking more dangerous with ten men than they had with eleven, however, a Matt Smith volley from 30 yards just cleared the bar in the 76th minute, and then both Plummer and Ballinger had shots charged down a minute later. The all important third goal arrived for Frome in the 86th minute as Hulbert flicked on a Perrott cross and Matt Smith rose high at the far post to head the ball into the top corner much to the jubilation of the home crowd and players. A run by Josh McKenzie in the last minute saw him push the ball past Darren Chitty, but as the home crowd held their breath, Dean Flockton was on hand to clear the danger, the whistle blew moments later and Frome were home and dry with three points in the bag, and a big confidence boost prior to the arrival of Conference South side Basingstoke in next Saturday’s FA Cup encounter. Representatives of match sponsor Graham Kimber Builders presented Matt Smith with the man of the match award for another impressive performance from the young midfielder.     .  Frome Town Redditch Jake Bedford Aaron Stringfellow Adam Wood Thomas Warmer Alex Hickman Tesfa Robinson Bradley Bullimore William Richards Connor Deards Joseph Harris Cameron Jones Robert Ager Josh McKenzie Aaron Moses_Garvey Lee Osborne Kyle Knott Officials R: A Matthews A: A Overthrow A: R Lawrence Sponsors Match : Graham Kimber Ball : Chantry Fine Art Mascots xxx Match Photos Photos of this match taken by our expert photographer Chas Hadfield can be viewed by clicking on this rectangle
