Saturday February 25th  2012 St Albans City Home Saturday February 25th 2012 Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Frome Town 0  St. Albans City 1 Frome Scorers: None. St. Albans Scorers: Martin (5) Crowd: 236 Entertainment Value: 3 Star Man: Dean Evans Frome Town's home goal drought continued, and a well taken 5th minute goal from Simon Martin consigned them to a single goal defeat against  a well organised St. Albans side who were worth their win. St. Albans started brightly, and after Darren Chitty had just tipped a free kick over the bar in the 2nd minute, a five minute period of domination ended with  Simon Martin receiving the ball just outside the area,  turning well inside his marker and then firing a low shot across Darren Chitty that ended up nestling just inside the far corner for the opening goal. Frome came back into the match with Dean Evans thudding a shot into the chest of Jupp in the 11th minute and Mike Perrott shooting wide in the 21st minute after a decent attacking spell, and two minutes later Frome's new loan siging Carl Walshe laid the ball into the path of Alex Lapham , but his low shot was straight at Jupp and easy to deal with. As the half progressed, St Albans started to dominate the midfield and a shot by Danny Hart in the 26th flew across the face of Frome goal with nobody getting the final touch. Frome were really struggling to string passes together at this stage, and it seemed as if every attempted move broke down quickly with a yellow shirt easily regaining possession. Chitty did well to save a 20 yard free kick in the 38th minute, and did even better to save the shot which resulted from the rebound, but the defence held out and the score remained 1-0 to St Albans at half time.  The second half took a while to get going, but was more even than the first, with St Albans generally looking comfortable and well organized and denying Frome any space on the ground. This tended to result in lots of balls hit into the air which always gave the taller defenders an advantage and meant that chances were at a premium. Walshe did well in the 55th minute as he controlled a dropping ball and let fly with a left foot volley from the edge of the area that Jupp did well to push out for a corner, and after Frome made three substitutions in the space of ten minutes, Ricky Hulbert almost created something in the 75th as he ran into the box, but the ball was just pushed out for a corner at the last minute. Hulbert again caused problems in the 80th minute as he got on the end of a Tom Evans long throw, but his close range header was pushed over the bar by Jupp. Frome started playing with three at the back as they chased the equaliser and with defende Tom Evans playing as a forward, he was very unlucky in the 86th minute as a glanced header from an Aaron Ledgister cross hit the far post, rebounded into play and was scrambled to safety. St Albans very nearly made it 2-0 with two minutes to go as a quick break caught Frome stretched and Sakho Bakare shot just wide of the far post with defenders struggling to get back to block the shot. Dean Evans was chosen as Frome's man of the match by the "Cornish Contingent" who had sponsored the match and supplied genuine hot pasties to the crowd prior to the match.     Frome Town St Albans Nick Jupp Chris Seeby Ryan Watts David Ijaha James Gray Cedric Neakam Danny Hart Micah Hyde Paul Furlong Simon Martin Chris Henry Sakho Bakare Matt Cutchery Sean Shields Aaron Lansiquot Danny Mc Gariele Officials R: A Matthews A: P Stayning A: P Humphrey Match Photos Photos of this match taken by our expert photographer Chas Hadfield can be viewed by clicking on this rectangle Match Sponsor Cornish Contingent Ball Sponsor Jethro, Denzil & Trotsky
