Tuesday October 9th 2012 Banbury Away  Tuesday 9th October 2012 Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Banbury Utd. 1 Frome Town 1 Frome Scorers:  Thompson (44) Banbury Scorers: Blossom (9) Crowd: 167 Star Man: Ben Wood Entertainment Value: 3 After their much improved performance against St. Neot’s on Saturday, Frome Town picked up another point on their travels with a 1-1 draw at Banbury United and after weathering an impressive opening from the hosts, could well have  all the points with several second half chances. Banbury certainly came hurtling out of the blocks at the start of the match and the 6th minute saw a left wing cross from Kynan Isaac evade everybody, but thankfully Tom Lorraine hit his shot wide at the far post. One minute later and Darren Chitty had to produce an excellent save to push away a 25 screamer from Adeyinka Talabi, but the hosts were not to be denied and the 9th minute saw them take the lead in spectacular fashion as a right wing free kick found central defender Wayne Blossom on the far post and his superb athletic bicycle kick flew high into the far corner of the net past a bemused Chitty. At this point, Banbury were well in control of the match, had more tempo and were attacking in numbers, but as the match wore on, Frome came more and more into it, with a Mike Perrott free kick bringing a superb save from Mattthew Gill to push the ball away from the top corner at full stretch. An awful tackle on Tom Evans in the 27th minute saw Isaac pick up a yellow card, but Frome were now starting to rattle their hosts and Dean Evans very nearly got on the end of an Alex Lapham corner which was flicked to the far post. The much deserved equaliser duly arrived in the 44th minute as a long throw from Ben Wood was headed upwards by a home defender, allowing full back Dave Thompson to head home his first goal of the season. The second half was fairly equal in terms of possession, but Frome looked to be carving out the better chances, and as Perrott set Wood free on the left in the 50th minute, his superb cross to the far post was headed just wide by Matt Smith. Most of the chances for Frome were now coming from Ben Wood, and two minutes later, yet another superb cross was headed over the bar by Lewis Powell from a point close to the penalty spot.  The 66th minute again saw Frome in with a chance as Wood evaded the offside trap, cut past the last defender and squared the ball to Lapham who managed to shoot straight at Gill in the home goal. The last chance arrived three minutes before the end as Wood curled a free kick in towards goal, Gill pushed the ball away and Matt Smith attcked the goal and squared it to substitute Nat Auckland who managed to get under the ball and blaze it over the bar. The “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award was awarded to Ben Wood after a storming performance on the left wing that was at the heart of a lot of good things.     Frome Town Banbury Utd Officials C O’Donell M Gospel M Weatherill Match Photos Photos of this match taken by our expert photographer Chas Hadfield can be viewed by clicking on this rectangle Match Sponsor xxxxxxx Ball Sponsor xxxxxxx Matthew Gill Luke Cray Martin Martin Wayne Blossom Jack Ashton Adeyinka Talabi Scott Bridges Ben Polk Tom Lorraine Igor Coronado Kynan Isaac Warren Plowright Tom Ryan Tom Cross Ashley Dumbleton Ryan Howell.
