An even, but slightly scrappy start to the match saw Frome carve out several half chances, with Mike Perrott letting a shooting opportunity go begging, a Ben Wood cross landing on top of the net and an Alex Lapham long range lob doing the same, but it was Barwell who took  the lead after 17 minutes as Tom Weale had far too much time in the Frome box and was able to “pass” the ball into the far corner round a crowd of players. It was almost 2-0 a minute later as an impressive move ended with a back heel that set Weale free again, but Darren Chitty was able to smother the ball at his feet. Frome very nearly equalised in the 21st as a Perrott header was headed onto his own crossbar by Barwell’s left back Connor Gudger, and Ben Wood beat the offside trap only to see his lob go past the post. Barwell went close in the 24th as a good attacking move saw Dave Barnett shoot over the bar, but five minutes later, they made it 2-0 as the impressive Jamie Towers waltzed past three Frome defenders and crossed for Matt West to easily score at the far post. The third arrived in the 40th as Alex Lapham was dispossessed easily allowing three Barwell attackers an easy run on goal with West grabbing his second as he shot under Darren Chitty into the net. Barwell’s right wing Towers was proving a real handful for the Frome defence and the 41st saw him carve through the defence yet again, only being foiled by a desperate clearance, and possibly this provoked the tactical substitution of Dean Flockton just after this, with Dave Gilroy coming on and Matt Smith playing as a centre back.  At half time, the crowd feared a bigger defeat, but with their ears probably still tingling after the half time team talk, Frome started with much more purpose and the first five minutes saw much more passion and commitment. Dean Evans was substituted in the 55th  minute immediately after picking up a yellow card, and Barwell looked to have weathered the storm, however, Tom Evans made it 3-1 in the 62nd as he nodded home a perfectly flighted Matt Smith cross, and a minute later,  a Ben Wood long throw allowed Alex Lapham drove home a sweetly struck 20 yarder after being teed up by Dave Gilroy. The match had now changed in the course of two minutes, and with the crowd roaring the players on, it seemed as if an unlikely victory was now a distinct possibility. This outcome became even possible in the 67th as Barwell goalkeeper Liam Castle was shown a straight red as he reacted angrily after a challenge by Gilroy. With Tom Weale taking over the goalkeeper’s jersey, Barwell protected their keeper by playing in the Frome half for most of the remainder of the game, the ploy worked and apart from an 87th minute Perrott volley that thudded against the Barwell crossbar, Frome never really created a clear cut scoring opportunity in this period, and had Chitty to thank for a couple of excellent saves from Towers and West. The “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award was awarded to Matt Smith  by match sponsors “Bitter and Twisted”  for another good performance at centre back.     Frome Town Barwell Officials M Whaley A Reed I Igniat Match Photos Photos of this match taken by our expert photographer Chas Hadfield can be viewed by clicking on this rectangle Match Sponsor Bitter and Twisted Ball Sponsor xxxxx Liam Castle Scott Lower Connor Gudger Guy Hadland Mark Albrighton Richard Lowery Jamie Towers Jack Edwards Matt West Dave Barnett Tom Weale Tom Bates Justin Marsden Jamie McAteer Kevin Charley Paul Spacey
