Saturday April 13th 2013 Bedford Away Saturday 13th April 2013 Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Bedford Town 0 Frome Town 1 Frome Scorers: Smith (58) Bedford Scorers: None Crowd: 227 Star Man: Josh Ford Entertainment Value: 4 A week is a long time in football, and after last Saturday’s poor result, Frome Town produced an excellent display of attacking football that led to a 1-0 away win at mid table Bedford and greatly enhanced their chances of avoiding relegation as other results went in their favour.    With Dave Gilroy coming back into the squad and no injuries following the RIC final in mid week, manager Derek Graham had a full squad to pick from and started the match with the same eleven that had done so well on Tuesday. The match started at pace with both sides looking to get the ball down and play, though struggling to keep their feet on the wet surface. Frome went close in the 11th minute as Mike Perrott crossed from the right only for the unmarked Mark Cooper to head wide at the far post, and then Luke Ballinger was very close to converting as he just failed to poke home a clever lob from Dean Evans. Evans himself went close in the 26th minute as he just failed to get a shot on target, Bedford had their first half chance a couple of minutes later, and then Ballinger burst through on goal, his shot hit the post and after Ricky Hulbert had teed up Cooper, only a clearance off the line prevented Frome from taking the lead. Bedford’s Ollie Wilkinson was forced to head a Ballinger free kick over his own bar a coupl of minutes later, and as half time approached, Frome kept the momentum going but always just failed to get the final touch on the ball that would bring the precious goal. The second half started in a similar mode to most of the first, with Frome still in the driving seat. The injured Ballinger was substituted by Mitch Bryant in the 51st minute and seven minutes later, he pulled the ball back for Smith to shoot and although Ian Brown got a lot on the ball, the spin took it into the back of the net to give Frome the lead. A rare Bedford attack in the 75th minute saw Josh Beech just fail to get onto the end of a left wing cross from Steve Kinniburgh, but then Frome almost went further ahead as Smith shot after being set up be Hulbert, but the shot flew over the crossbar. Bedford never really looked like equalising until the 88th minute when a long ball took an awkward bounce and Darren Chitty reacted quickly to just turn and tip it over the bar ensuring that the precious three points came back to Somerset. This was another  excellent performance by Frome and Josh Ford was awarded the  “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award after a very commanding, stable performance at the heart of the defence.
