Wednesday December 19th 2012 Bedford Home Wednesday 19th December 2012 Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Frome Town 2 Bedford Town 3 Frome Scorers: Perrott (58), Jefferies (85) Bedford Scorers: Bell (9), Green (36) & (64) Crowd: 119 Star Man: None Awarded Entertainment Value: 3 In front of their lowest league game crowd for three season, Frome never really looked like taking the points in this encounter, and although they scored twice, Bedford always looked to have the upper hand and were worth their 3-2 victory on the night. With Dean Flockton unavailable, midfielder Matt Smith started the match at centre half alongside Tom Evans, and with influential winer Ben Wood having returned to Bideford, Aaron Ledgister started the match slotted in on the left of midfield. Greg Tindle came in to replace Mike Reaney at left back (still struggling with a long term injury) and Sam Allison came into the squad for a cameo role as his refereeing duties allowed him some available time. Frome went close early on as a glanced header from Greg Tindle just shaved the far post, but then Bedford took the lead in the 9th minute as a low shot from the left fizzed in towards the far post. Darren Chitty got down well to save, but the greasy ball slipped out of his grasp and Mark Bell was left with an easy tap in from close range. Frome had a couple of chances as a free kick just cleared the far post, and then a Ledgister cross was just headed out from under his own cross bar by a Bedford defender, but on the whole the match was even, with midfields dominating and the ball hard to control in the wet conditions. Bedford made it 2-0 in the 36th minute as a quick raid on the left led to a low, hard cross into the box and Will Green showed good anticipation to outstrip the Frome defence and arrive unmarked at a position that gave him an easy task to slot the ball home from six yards out. As the half progressed, Bedford had two more chances to increase their lead, but in both instances, loss of control at the final moment let the chances go begging, and at half time, Frome were left with a two goal deficit that was going to take some recovering. The first few seconds of the second half saw a Mike Perrott clearance charged down, only for Nick Beasant to blast the chance over the bar, and Alex Lapham had to be alert to head out from under his own bar a couple of minutes later as Bedford started the stronger of the two teams. Bedford got the ball into the net in the 56th minute only for it be disallowed, and two minutes later, Frome pulled one back as a Dean Evans through ball found Lewis Powell in the visitors box. His turn and shot was blocked, but the ball came back to Perrott who produced a well struck left foot curling shot into the far corner to give Frome some hope. Perrott had the chance to equalise immediately as a well flighted right wing corner found him in unmarked space, but his firm header went straight at Ian Brown and allowed an easy save. Shortly after two Frome substitutions, Bedford regained their two goal cushion as a simple right wing cross found Green unmarked just inside the Frome area and his clever, cushioned header lobbed over Chitty and fell into the corner of the net. Bedford were comfortable with their lead now and looked like holding it with ease until the end of the match, but Frome gave themselves hope in the 85th as a brief period of pressure led to numerous shooting opportunities and eventually Darren Jefferies fired home well through a crowd of players after Brown had failed to get any distance with a clearing punch. The final eight minutes or so produced no other real incidents and Frome were left once again looking over their shoulders at the bottom of the table, and, perhaps, considering the fact that the squad does not now possess wingers with pace who can take opponents on and get to the dead ball line. In the absence of match or ball sponsors, no  “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award was awarded.   Frome Town Bedford Officials A Newell A Somers K Gould Match Photos Photos of this match taken by our expert photographer Chas Hadfield can be viewed by clicking on this rectangle Match Sponsor None Ball Sponsor None Ian Brown Ollie Wilkinson Steve Kinniburgh Mike Bullis Josh Beech Jamie Grimes Mark Bell Callum Lewis Will Green Nick Beasant Chris Pitharas Eugene Libertuca Paul Cooper Seb Simpson
