The frantic first half had “relegation dogfight” written all over it as the dry pitch and swirling wind made control difficult for both sides, and it was obvious that Bedworth were “up for the challenge” as needle crept into the match. Neither side really mastered the conditions and ball swung from end to end, with moves frequently breaking down at the critical point and the attacking team forced to scramble back into defence. The only chance of note came in the 39th minute as Bedworth’s right back Alex Dean went on a rampaging run through the midfield, and, as he was dispossessed, the ball broke to Mitch Piggon who found himself with just Darren Chitty to beat from 15 yards, but his shot hit the crossbar, came back into play and was eventually cleared. After a bright start to the second half, Frome’s troubles started in the 59th minute as Mike Perrott lost the ball in midfield allowing Bedworth to break, and as Tom Lorraine bore down on the Frome goal, Dean Flockton took him down with a sliding tackle just inside the penalty area. The referee immediately showed Flockton a red card for a “last man tackle” and Piggon sent Chitty the wrong way from the spot kick to give Bedworth the lead. Frome went close in the 65th minute as Jed Harper-Penman pulled the ball back for Dean Evans to let fly with a shot that just kissed the top of the Bedworth cross bar, but then disaster struck again in the 70th minute as striker Mitch Bryant got involved in an argument between Mark Cooper and Nathan Haines, and was shown a straight red for apparently throwing a punch, leaving Frome with nine men for the remainder of the match. Luke Ballinger replaced Cooper shortly afterwards and amazingly the nine man team looked more likely to score, with Harper-Penman shooting just over the bar in the 75th minute, and the equaliser came two minutes later from Ballinger himself as he produced a superb chip over Andrew Kemp from outside the penalty area. Unfortunately, Bedworth regained the lead straight from the kick off as left winger Richard Wesley utilised the extra space on the left and centred for the unmarked Tom Lorraine to head home and after bringing a good save from Chitty and hitting the side netting, they sealed the win two minutes from time as the impressive Wesley pulled the ball back for Dave Blenkinsopp to shoot home from close range.   The  “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award was awarded to captain Dean Evans by representatives of Sandstone Media who had sponsored the match.
