Monday April 1st 2013 Bideford Away Monday 1st April 2013 Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Bideford 0 Frome Town 0 Frome Scorers:None Bideford Scorers: None Crowd: 186 Star Man: Rhys Baggridge Entertainment Value: 3 On a dry, bumpy pitch with a stiff wind making control difficult, this was always going to be a testing match, and with both teams struggling to cope with the conditions in the first half, all the chances arrived right at the very end, but neither Frome nor Bideford could convert and the goal less draw meant that Frome could be very satisfied with their four points from the Easter fixtures.  With Matt Clark’s loan period having finished, and Alex Lapham having picked up a nasty injury against Kettering, striker Lloyd Matthews came into the side at number 6, and with Ricky Hulbert starting the match at no 11, the side had an attacking look about it. The match started on time, but the conditions made life very difficult with the wind tending to takes high balls out of play and the the bobbly pitch making control on the ground difficult. The 5th minute saw Mike Perrott let fly with a 25 yarder that thumped into the chest of Tim Sandercombe and Bideford had a half chance in the 14th as Rob Farkins headed a corner over the bar. As a spectacle, the first half failed to deliver and Frome’s only real chance came just before half time with a strong shout for a penalty  as Ricky Hulbert seemed as he ran into the box, but nothing was given and the half finished just afterwards. The second half saw Bideford’s Rob Farkins land a header on the roof of the net and Matt Andrew blaze the ball over the bar as they started the better, but then Ricky Hulbert shot wide in the 53rd minute as ball bobbled into his path, and the game became an end to end affair. Brave blocking by Frome defenders thwarted Kevin Squire and then Frome’s Matthews fired over from 30 yards as he was set up by Hulbert who nodded on a huge Darren Chitty clearance. The last ten minutes of the match saw both sides going for the winner, and the 84th minute saw a Perrott header cleared off the Bideford line by a defender, and two minutes later Mitch Bryant found himself through with only the keeper to beat but he shot wide and a massive chance went begging. Bideford very nearly won it in the 90th minute as Kevin Squire found himself in acres but Rhys Baggridge stuck out a leg to just divert the ball for a corner, and as that came in the ball was not cleared and Luke Ballinger headed the ball off of his own line. The match still wasn’t over, and Ballinger and Hulbert combined well on the right to engineer an opening for Bryant. He turned in the box and rolled the ball back to the onrushing Hulbert, only for his shot to balloon way over the bar. What a winner that would have been, but it wasn’t to be and the match finished shortly afterwards with honours even.   The  “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award was awarded to left back Rhys Baggridge for another excellent perfomance.
