Wednesday November 28th 2012 Bridgwater Home   Wednesday 28th November 2012 Red Insure Cup 2nd Round Frome Town 5 Bridgwater Town 2 Frome Scorers: Gilroy (4) (50), Smith (14), Lapham (36), Legg (53og) Bridgwater Scorers: Fitzpatrick (63), Legg(82) Crowd: 73 Star Man: Dave Gilroy Entertainment Value: 4 A cold night and a good pitch after the recent rainfall, saw Frome comfortably progress to the next round of the Red Insure Cup, and after Frome went 5-0 up early in the second half, Bridgwater came back into the match and scored two goals which they deserved on the night. Frome wasted little time taking the lead and a good through ball put Mike Perrott clear on the right, and as he made ground towards the dead ball line, he looked up and produced the perfect chipped cross onto the head of Dave Gilroy who headed home easily from close range in the 4th minute. The lead was doubled ten minutes later as Perrott allowed the ball to run into the path of Gilroy who then produced a similar cross from the right that saw Matt Smith managed to wrap his right foot round the ball and volley into the net, even though the ball was slightly behind him. It was almost 3-0 a few minutes later as Gilroy beat the offside trap and shot towards the far corner, with the ball just being cleared by a defender as it was about to roll across the line, but the third did arrive in the 36th minute as a left wing cross found Alex Lapham in space in the box and he stabbed the ball home from close range at the second attempt. Darren Chitty was called into action for the first time in the 38th minute as he tipped a screaming volley from Craig Veal over the bar, and at half time, Frome were well worth their lead. Only 12 seconds of the second half had elapsed when Gilroy pounced on a moment of hesitation in the Bridgwater defence, but his chip over Luke Purnell just cleared the bar, but he wasn’t to be denied 5 minutes later as a lovely through ball from Darren Jefferies put him in the clear and he shot low into the net through Purnell’s legs to make it 4-0 to Frome. Three minutes later it was 5-0 as Ben Wood cut in from the left and hit a low cross into the Bridgwater box, this time the ball being turned into his own net by Tim Legg who was under intense pressure from Perrott at the time. It was almost 6-0 a few minutes later as Gilroy cut in from the left, jinked into the box and just saw a deflection take the ball out for a corner, but then Bridgwater reduced the arrears as Steve Fitzpatrick rose unmarked in the Frome box to head home a right wing cross. With the match won, perhaps Frome took their foot off the throttle a little, and Bridgwater now started to take some charge of the game, with Chitty having to make some good saves to deny the visitors. The 73rd minute saw him tip a 25 yarder over the bar, but from the resulting corner, Tim Legg rose above everyone to head home into the top corner to make the score 5- 2 which it remained to the final whistle.    The “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award was awarded to Dave Gilroy for a lot of good work and movement leading the Frome attack.     Frome Town Bridgwater Officials A Penwell G Barter K Cutler Match Photos Photos of this match taken by our expert photographer Chas Hadfield can be viewed by clicking on this rectangle Match Sponsor xxxx Ball Sponsor xxxxx Luke Purnell Tyne Govier Zayne Simpson Brad Middleton Tim Legg Steve Fitzpatrick Joe McClennan Graham Merieca Ross Macnab Jon Vance Craig Veal Ollie Chamberlain Kenzie Farnham
