Wednesday October 3rd 2012 Chard Town Home SPC Wednesday 3rd October 2012 Somerset Premier Cup 1st Round Frome Town 6 Chard Town 1 Frome Scorers:  Herbert (17),(63), ((73), (85), Gilroy (15), D.Evans (61) Chard Scorers: Martin (49) Crowd: 70 Star Man: Claudio Herbert Entertainment Value: 4 They say that goals are like buses .... you wait for ages for one, and then four come along at once, and this was certainly true for Frome striker Claudio Herbert as he grabbed four goals in a 6-1 victory over Chard Town that set up a mouth watering away tie at Weston Super Mare in the next round. With a much changed side from Saturday, the match started at pace with both sides playing quick, passing football, however the difference between the sides soon became apparent as Frome settled into their stride and began to create shooting chances at will, with Scott Wellsburr being called into action four times in the first twelve minutes. The opening goal arrived in the 15th minute as Nat Auckland left his marker for dead, got to the deadball line and produced a great right wing cross that enabled Dave Gilroy to head home easily from close range for his first Frome goal. A Harry Baker screamer was just tipped away for a corner two minutes later, and as the corner was swung in, the ball fell to Ryan Bennett who chipped the ball back across goal for Claudio Herbert to head home with the help of the inside of the far post. The match then became one way traffic for the remainder of the half, with Wellsburr showing his class as he dealt with shots from Mark Cooper, Darren Jefferies, Harry Baker and Aaron Ledgister, and Frome had numerous other attempts on goal that soared over the crossbar rather than hitting the target, but the score remained 2-0 at the interval. The second half saw Gilroy shoot just wide in the 47th, but then Card pulled one back two minutes later as a shot from Andy Martin deflected into the far  corner, and in their best spell of the match, they very nearly equalised as a shot from Richard Hebbditch was deflected just past the post. Frome were looking a little unsure of themselves at this point, but they settled their nerves in the 61st minute as a Baker shot thumped against the Chard crossbar, the ball broke to Ledgister and his pin point cross from the left found Dean Evans in space and his downward header found the back of the net to make it 3-1. The fourth arrived two minutes later as a left wing Ledgister cross was headed down by sub Martin Johnson and Herbert drove the ball home from close range. Herberts’ hat trick was completed in the 73rd minute as he chased a through ball and flicked the ball over Wellsburr before following the ball into the net to make it 5-1, and his fourth arrived in the 85th minute as a diving header to another pinpoint Ledgister cross found the back of the net. The “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award was awarded to four goal hero Claudio Herbert by Jackie Ridout and Barry White on behalf of New Windows Ltd, who had sponsored the match.     Frome Town Chard Town Officials D Bryant K Williams M Veater Match Photos Photos of this match taken by our expert photographer Chas Hadfield can be viewed by clicking on this rectangle Match Sponsor xxxxxxx Ball Sponsor New Windows Ltd.
