Tuesday January 1st 2013 Chippenham Away Tuesday 1st January 2013 Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Chippenham 2 Frome Town 2 Frome Scorers: Perrott (75), D. Evans (90) Chippenham Scorers: Bennett (7og), Griffin (26) Crowd: 478 Star Man: Darry Chitty Entertainment Value: 3 Perhaps it’s time for manager Darren Perrin to start giving his half time team talk prior to the game, as, for the fourth match in a row, Frome Town produced yet another dire first half perfomance, were thankful to keeper Darren Chitty for keeping the scoreline down to a two goal deficit, but then did much better in the second half and goals from Mike Perrott and Dean Evans produced a share of the points in a 2-2 draw at Chippenham. On a thankfully dry and sunny afternoon, the match kicked off with Chippenham kicking down the slope and the match started in the worst possible way for Frome as a 7th minute  Chippenham corner led to a perfect header that flew into the net giving Chitty no chance, the real downside being that the header was by Frome defender Ryan Bennett, and from that moment onwards the match became a mountain to climb. Chippenham had the ball in the net again in the 13th minute as a free kick was turned in at the third attempt after Chitty had made a tremendous double save, but luckily the goal was disallowed for offside and after Frome had started to make the occasional foray into the opposing half, they were rocked back on their heels again as Chippenham made it 2-0 in the 26th minute, again from a corner, but this time it was striker Alan Griffin who rose unchallenged at the far post to head powerfully home. Frome’s day went from bad to worse after this and only a goal line clearance two minutes later and another fine Chitty double save shortly afterwards kept the deficit at two goals, but it only seemed a question of time before Chippenham extended their lead. Dean Evans received a yellow card for a late Christmas present to ex team mate Luke Ballinger, then a rare Frome attack saw Matt Smith felled as he burst into the box, only to be booked for diving, and when Alex Lapham had to be helped from the pitch after a 5 minute stoppage for what looked like a bad ankle injury, the half time whistle couldn’t come soon enough for the visitors. It’s an old cliche, but football is a game of two halves, and kicking down the slope, Frome immediately looked better and a shot from Smith from a tight angle brought the first real save from Ben John, followed by another save as Darren Jefferies managed a shot on target, but then Chitty had to produce a top class save at his near post as the Frome defence again struggled to clear the ball. A 65th minute substitution led to Dean Evans pushing up alongside Dave Gilroy as Frome searched for something from the match, but despite having more of the game now, Frome never really looked like having the required cutting edge. However that all changed in the 75th minute as a corner was headed back across goal by Martin Johnson and Mike Perrott capped a hard working performance with a superb mid air volley that flew into the net to make the score 2-1. Chitty was again called into action a minute later to keep Frome in the game, but as the clock ticked down, it seemed as if Chippenham were comfortable defending their lead and that Frome had left it too late, but luckily nobody had told Dean Evans that, and the last minute of normal time saw him let fly with a stunning 30 yarder that flew in under the Chippenham crossbar to earn Frome a priceless point in a game which had long seemed a lost cause.     The  “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award was awarded to Frome’s goalkeeper Darren Chitty for yet another outstanding performance that kept the team in with a chance of the points.   Frome Town Chippenham Officials xxx xxx xxx Match Photos Photos of this match taken by our expert photographer Chas Hadfield can be viewed by clicking on this rectangle Match Sponsor xxx Ball Sponsor xxxx Ben John Adie Harris Jim Rollo Ashley Williams Steve Casey (c) Nathan Rudge Luke Ballinger Iain Harvey Alan Griffin Tom Knighton  James Guthrie.
