Saturday March 30th 2013 Kettering Home Saturday 30th March 2013 Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Frome Town 3 Kettering 1 Frome Scorers: Baggridge (51), Eze (65og), Bryant (90) Kettering Scorers: Muzvimbiri (50) Crowd: 222 Star Man: Dean Evans Entertainment Value: 4 After going a goal behind, Frome responded well and three goals and three points brought a smile to the faces of the home crowd as Frome beat Kettering in this “must win” battle at the foot of the table. Frome started the match with a full complement of players, and with Matt Smith playing wide on the right, Mike Perrott wide on the left and Alex Lapham in the centre, the team had a balanced look and feel to it. New signing (from Bideford) Jed Harper-Penman took his place on the bench. Frome started the match with purpose, looking much more incisive than of late, and after an early Mike Perrott header had cleared the bar, Matt Smith produced a peach of a cross from the right that only just evaded everyone. An 11th minute foul on Perrott led to a quickly taken free kick that allowed Mitch Bryant to bring a good low save from Mike Quirke, and the visiting keeper did well twice in the 20th minute to save first from Bryant and then from a 20 yard screamer from Tom Evans.  Things became quieter after that and although Frome still looked the more dangerous, few other chances presented themselves. A late tackle on Alex Lapham right on the stroke of half time left him with a gashed / badly bruised shin that may well cut short his return from a lengthy lay off with an ankle problem and he was substituted by Darren Jefferies at half time after being helped off the pitch.  Against the run of play, Ketttering took the lead in the 4th minute of the second half as Dean Flockton missed an interception allowing Will Muzvimbiri to run onto the ball and place a superb low, sidefoot shot into the corner of the net from 20 yards, but then, to the relief of the crowd, Frome equalised within 90 seconds as a Darren Jefferies corner was headed home at the far post by the unmarked Rhys Baggridge. Frome were starting to play some good stuff now and Evans, Bryant, Smith and Perrott were really starting to combine well as they came forward and caused Kettering problems whenever they did. One of these raids led to Perrott controlling the ball with one touch and delivering a low cross into the six yard box where the unfortunate Kettering centre half Henry Eze stretched for the ball but was only able to toe poke the ball gently past his keeper into hios own net. After another Perrott run had set Jefferies up for a shot but he hesitated too long, Kettering’s Chris Logan was really unlucky as he stopped a fierce shot with the side of his face, was adjudged to have handled and then received a yellow card as he protested the decision. After a rare Kettering attack had seen a header whistle past the upright , Frome sealed the win in the 90th minute as a Perrott cross found Mitch Bryant in the box, and a turn and shot into the corner sealed the win. A miserable afternoon for Henry Eze was completed as he added to his own goal with a  straight red card in injury time for seeking retribution on Frome’s Tom Evans after an earlier altercation.      The  “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award was awarded to captain  Dean Evans by representatives of SK Fruits who had sponsored the match, making it two “man of the match” awards for the inspirational captain in one week.
