Wednesday February 27th 2013 Taunton Away SPC Wednesday 27th February 2013 Somerset Premier Cup Quarter Final TauntonTown 5  Frome Town 2 Frome Scorers: Ford (40), Copp (72) Taunton Scorers: Ingram (32), Plant (42), Marsh (66,71,74) Crowd: 101 Star Man: Jordan Copp Entertainment Value: 3 Frome Town bowed out of the Somerset Premier Cup with a poor defeat at Division One South & West side Taunton Town, and with Taunton having dumped Frome out of the first round of the FA Trophy back with a 1-0 victory at Frome back in the summer, they are certainly enjoying local bragging rights at the moment.    During a bright first 20 minutes when Frome were on top, Ricky Hulbert had a header saved and Luke Ballinger fired over for Frome whilst Clay Bond saw a shot charged down at the other end. Jordan Copp rattled the woodwork with a raking shot as Frome enjoyed slight territorial advantage, but then things faded  and the final quarter of the half saw a flurry of goals. A curling Simon Ingram free kick gave the hosts the lead in the 32nd minute, with Darren Chitty rooted to the spot, but then Josh Ford equalised in the 40th minute for the Robins as he headed home a Luke Ballinger free kick against his former Club An error by Dave Thompson as he tried to see the ball into touch allowed Jamie Short to rob him and play the ball to Raith Plant to give the hosts a half time lead.  Twenty minutes into the second half Carl Cliff Brown set up Rodney Marsh to bring the ball down well and beat Chitty at his near post with a neat shot and, with Frome pushing up in search of a route back into the tie, Marsh got behind their defence to slide home a fourth. Copp briefly blasted the visitors back into contention with a stunning strike, but Marsh immediately slammed the door shut again, completing a seven minute hat trick with a fine angled drive. The last ten minutes saw Ballinger and Copp both produce efforts that might have re-dressed the balnce a bit, but Copp’s stinging shot flew just wide and Ballinger’s effort brought a superb save from Christian Watts in the home goal.  A major plus for the Robins was the performance of new boy Copp but will be concerned at a growing injury list that now includes Tom Evans who pulled up with a thigh strain in the pre- match warm up and Dave Thompson who required an ambulance to attend for an injury picked up in the lead up to Taunton’s fifth goal. Frome now have to pull themselves together for the away trip to Redditch on Saturday, which is turning into one of the biggest games of the season and is a true “six pointer” in every sense. The  “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” award was awarded to Jordan Copp for an impressive debut and a very well taken goal.
