On a hot day and a perfect pitch,  Frome started quickly and an excellent break following a Totton corner saw Gareth Barfoot having to clear the ball when he was way out of his goal, Frome managed to maintain the pressure and Matt Smith went very close with a brave header. Slightly against the run of play, Totton took the lead in the 19th minute as Jon Davies turned his marker inside out on the left wing before finding a perfect cross for Richard Gillespie to glance across the goal and into the far corner for a well taken goal. Frome hit the top of the Totton crossbar in the 24th minute as Smith let fly from at least thirty yards,  Darren Chitty brought off a great save a minute later as a deep Totton cross was played back to Dave Allen to shoot from close range, and then Ben Woods once again hit the Totton bar from distance. Frome equalised in the 32nd minute as Matt Smith challenged Barfoot for a corner, the ball broke free and defender Tom Evans was able to stab the ball home from 6 yards through a crowded penalty area. They took the lead five minutes later with a carbon copy goal, but this time following a free kick that Barfoot failed to deal with under his own crossbar, the ball fell to new signing Lewis Powell to stab home from close range or his debut goal for the club. The second half saw Frome start very well, with Dean Evans beating Barfoot to a high ball, but his header looped over the bar, and the 52nd minute saw a mass Frome attack with both Smith and Evans just failing to get on the end of a low Lapham cross. Darren Chitty again proved his class as a rare defensive lapse attack left him exposed, but a perfectly timed slide tackle allowed him to gather the ball at the second attempt. Frome made it safe in the 72nd minute as Ben Woods also recorded his debut goal as he cut inside his man and curled a low shot into the far corner with the outside of his foot from just inside the Totton area. The last quarter saw Frome defending in depth with ten men after Tom Evans was shown a second yellow card, but apart from a glaring close range miss from Mike Gosney with three minutes to go, they looked comfortable to the final whistle, with new striker Nat Auckland showing his versatility as he slotted in at centre back with Dean Flockton moving to left back. The “H&B Tyres Man of the Match” as chosen by match sponsors H&B Tyres was Ben Woods, who had an excellent league debut for Frome on the left wing and also capped it off with a very well taken goal.     Frome Town AFC Totton Gareth Barfoot Luke Whitley Murray Holmes Ross Bottomley Jamie Whisken Chris Mason Carl Pettefer (c) Jon Davies DAve Allen Richard Gillespie MIke Gosney Ryan Hill Alex Baldaccinno Luke Roberts Jack Odam Ross Casey Officials M Lawrence M Curtis R Lawrence Match Photos Photos of this match taken by our expert photographer Chas Hadfield can be viewed by clicking on this rectangle Match Sponsor H&B Tyres Ball Sponsor Graham & Kimber Ltd.
