With Frome struggling to find the net this season, having scored just once in their three games, and with Dorchester having scored a total of nine goals, three in each of their previous games, if Frome were going to come away with anything from this match, it was going to take a lot of effort and more than a lttle luck. Frome were without the services of Lewis Haldane who has decided to leave the Club due to personal and work commitments, Rob Hobbs (injury) and Ollie Taylor (work commitments), though were glad to welcome Jake Hutchings back to the squad from Enfield Town (after a period with Hearts) and man of the match Steve Hulbert was able to make his first start after serving a three match suspension from last season, and left back Lee Sweet came back into the side after injury. Predictably, Dorchester were the first to show and the very first minute saw an early chance as a ball over the top found Ben Watson in space, who then squared it to Lee who shot narrowly wide from edge of area Watson was involved again six minutes later as a he was picked out by a through ball from Brad Tarbuck and probably should have scored, but he was denied by Darren Chitty who saved with legs. Chitty again had to be alert two minutes later to save Tarbuck’s low drive, but then Frome had a half chance as Jon Vance and Matt Minnis worked a short corner that saw Vance pick out Ben Thomson, but his header was wide of the target. Vance was again involved in the 14th as this time his free kick perfectly found the head of the unmarked Kris Miller, but the header cleared the far post, and eight minutes later Dorchester really should have opened the scoring as a cross from Tarbuck was pushed clear by Chitty, but only into the patch of Lewis Morgan who somehow managed to miss the open goal from eight yards out. Frome’s luck continued to hold as Tarbuck hit the post with a screamer from 25 yards, and both Lee and Morgan were guilty of glaring misses in the space of a couple of minutes as both close range headers flew wide of the target. However, as the clock ticked towards half time, Frome started to show some spirit and an interchange between Hulbert and Thomson set up a chance for Joe Tumelty and his low effort was saved by Alan Walker-Harris at full stretch. Two minutes later, and Tumelty returned the favour for Thomson who turned his marker and curled a shot in the hands of Walker-Harris, and with five minutes to go, Thomson again brought a save from Walker-Harris and Matt Minnis’s follow up shot was deflected for a corner. The second half saw Frome revert to four defenders at the back, and Dorchester were looking for the winner and had great chances in the 55th minute as a ball from Tarbuck  just evaded the lunging Watson, and as the pressure turned into a frenzy, two close range efforts were blocked after a mazy run by Tarbuck and then the follow up from Lee was also  bravely blocked The 68th minute saw a cross from Dorchester’s Hutchings hit the top of the Frome bar, at the other end a 30 yarder from Vance was just tipped over, Lee Sweet bravely blocked a goalbound attempt in the 77th, and how Chris Dillon missed an open goal from 4 yards out is a complete mystery, but somehow, Frome’s luck held out, and they needed it in the 82nd as Martin smashed a cross home, only for the officials to rule the goal out as they deemed that Tarbucks had just taken the ball out of play before the cross.   Steve Hulbert was awarded the H&B Tyres Man of the Match Award for a good Southern League debut in the centre of defence.
