It was a sad day for the Club following the death during the week of Tom
Clark, a young man who had been a lifelong supporter and had been
instrumental in arranging the sponsorship of the Special Effects stadium (
a charity which seeks to provide video gaming facilities for severely
As a special tribute, the players warmed up in in specially printed tee
shirts and prior to the match kicking off there was a minutes applause in
recognition of Tom’s life and the positive effects that his cheerful persona
had had on everyone involved with the Club.
In the emotion of the occasion, there was no way that Frome were going
to lose this one and so it proved as first half goal from Darren Jefferies
gave them the lead, and a resolute defending display against a good
Biggleswade side was capped right at the end with a sweetly taken goal
from Jon Davis.
With Sam Teale still suffering from the knock picked up against Salisbury, Jordan Walker recovering
from the hamstring strain in the same match, Mitchell Page still suspended and Marcus Mapstone
just fit enough to take his place on the bench, Frome were still a long way short of a full strength
However, they started on a bright note and attacked the Waders goal right from the start, forcing
three corners in the opening minutes but failing to make a dent on the visitors defence.
However, the pressure soon told and they took the lead in the 26th as Jon Davies produced some of
his customary skills on the edge of the box to produce a lovely through ball that Darren Jefferies
ran onto to score with a delightful drive into corner of the net.
Frome were grateful to Darren Chitty in the 33rd as he pulled off a great save to deny
Biggleswade’s Daniel when he was clean through with only the keeper to beat.
The second half saw the Waders come at the hosts, but Frome’s back four were up to the task and
as the storm abated, the match became a midfield battle with few chances, that is until the 75th
minute when Perry for the visitors shot wide with only Chitty to beat.
As the final minutes ticked away, Biggleswade very nearly equalised in the 88th as a flying header
hit the bar and went over for a goal kick, but then two minutes later, Frome sealed the game when
Davis scored a delightful goal, hitting the ball with the outside of his boot from just inside the area
and curling the ball into the corner of the net past the despairing Brown.
The goal and the victory was a fitting tribute from the players and the management to a much
loved supporter who will be sadly missed.
Defender Chris Gregan was awarded the H&B Tyres Man of the Match award for an excellent
perfomance at left back.
