Eastleigh Scorers: None
Frome Town cruised to an easy 3-0 win over a young Eastleigh side, dominated the first half
and never really looked in danger of conceding a goal for the entire ninety minutes.
The match started very brightly for Frome with Tooze almost opening the scoring in the 2nd
minute as he produced a volley at the near post from a right wing throw, and he was again
invoved in the 6th minute as a left foot shot from a Thomson flicked header won a corner.
As the corner was swung in, Cheeseman flicked the ball on with his head and Tooze blasted
the ball home from close range to open the scoring.
As the game progressed, Eastleigh came more into the match, but Frome always looked
dangerous and Tooze again brought a sharp near post save from Zaragosa as he cut into
the box from the right wing and unleashed a left foot shot from 10 yards. Eastleigh survived
a penalty appeal in the 23rd minute as Perrott appeared to be taken down, and five minutes
later Dean Evans hit the bar from 15 yards after being set up by Hulbert.
Frome made it 2-0 in the 29th minute as a right wing corner was flicked on at the near post
allowing Perrott to volley the ball home form 10 yards with Zaragosa taking a lot of speed
off the ball but failing to stop it crossing the line.
Eastleigh's first chance came in the 35th minute as Ferreira unleashed a long range shot
that fizzed past Chitty's far post, but Frome were well in comand, Evans went close again in
the 38th minute, and the score remained 2-0 to Frome at half time.
The second half started in the same fashion as the first, and Tooze had a shooting
opportunity in the 61st minute but stumbled as he hit the ball. Frome made it 3-0 two
minutes later as a left wing free kick found Hulbert who played the ball through to the
unmarked Cheeseman, who turned and stroked the ball into the far corner of the net with
his left foot.
Frome made six substitutions in the 67th minute and with the game won, the match turned
into an entertaining, open, end to end affair, but no real chances occurred until the last
minute when Darren White was taken down in the penalty area after being set clear by
Thomson. Thomson seemed to be set for taking the penalty, but then Ballinger intervened,
only to see his low shot cannon off the base of the post and the chance went begging.
A good game on a beautiful afternoon, and Frome seem to be shaping up nicely as a squad
with new signing Tooze beginning to make a name for himself, but in truth, it would have
been better to see a stronger Eastleigh side to be able to gauge the progress.
