Frome Scorers: Thomson (45+1)
Hallen Scorers: Collett (32)

Frome Town eventually won this replay on penalties to progress to the next round of the FA
Cup, but Hallen can rightly feel proud of their performance, as they more than matched Frome
in all areas over the course of the two matches.
The early exchanges of the match were lively, with both sides shooting from range, but with
nothing troubling the goal keepers, the first real chance of the match arrived in the 18th
minute as a Ballinger right wing cross was flicked on by the head of Dean Evans with the ball
just evading the far post.
A period of Hallen domination led to the opening goal of the night in the 32nd minute as they
kept possession in the Frome half for several minutes leading to Mowatt heading the ball into
the path of Collett who scored with a superb left foot volley over the head of Chitty into the top
corner of the goal, giving him his third goal in the two games and giving Hallen the lead.
Frome immediately went close from the re-start as Evans got his head to a Thomson cross,
but the header just cleared the crossbar, and then Hallen took control again, playing almost all
their football in the Frome half and looking capable of dealing with anything that Frome could
throw at them.
Against the run of play, Frome equalised on the stroke of half time as a Brigham throw was
flicked on by the head of Evans, and Thomson lent back and curled his right foot around a
volley from 15 yards that flew past Nick Yeo into the Hallen net.
The second half saw Frome try to take the game to Hallen more, and in terms of possession
and territory, it was probably just about equal, but the Hallen defence, with two outstanding
centre backs and two quick full backs looked totally capable of dealing with any Frome attack,
and so it proved. Going forward, Hallen played neat passing football, but then they ran up
against the Frome defence, and almost the entire half passed with a single real chance at
either end.
Frome had a golden chance to win the match in the 93rd minute as, incredibly, both Alex
Lapham and Mike Perrott managed to hit the base of both Hallen posts from 15 yards, within a
few seconds of each other. The whistle blew directly after, and the match moved into extra
time.
Extra time was much the same pattern as the second half of normal time, but Evans just failed
to slide home a Tooze cross at the end of the first period, and Collett almost won it for Hallen
halfway through the second period as a diving header from a free kick just clipped the top of
the Frome crossbar, but the deadlock could not be broken and the match moved to the cruel
penalty decider.
Brigham, Ballinger and Plummer all converted for Frome, while Chitty saved from Nelmes,
Greening clipped the top of the bar as he shot over, meaning that Matt Smith had the chance
to win it for Frome. Yeo saved his shot, Davis converted for Hallen, and Dean Evans
eventually won the match for Frome as he converted their 5th penalty..
