Frome Town were left to rue missed chances in this match, and after Oxford City scored twice,
midway through the first half, the result of the game was never really in doubt as the second
half produced little in the way of incident.
Oxford very nearly took the lead in the 1st minute as a Ryan Bennett error allowed Steve
Basham a close range effort that was turned over the bar by Darren Chitty in the visitor's goal,
and Frome went very close in the 17th minute as a brilliant run by Kyle Tooze on the left wing
led to him beating his marker twice, then producing a cross that Dean Evans headed over the
bar from close range.
The 20th minute saw a shot from Felipe Barcelos go just wide with Chitty scrambling across
his goal, and then Oxford took the lead in the 23rd minute as a clumsy challenge from
Frome's left back Tom Evans conceded a penalty and Steve Basham comprehensively scored
from the spot.
Oxford increased their lead nine minutes later as a long throw from Andy Ballard was flicked
on and into the net, with Wayne Blossom being credited with the goal.
Frome's Josh Brigham thundered a 20 yard free kick straight into the body of Oxford's giant
(6'9") goalkeeper Jason Mooney in the 35th minute, and he was involved again just before
half time as he got his head to a Tooze corner, only for the ball to be deflected over the bar.
On the stroke of half time a Oxford defender appeared to handle the ball on the far post, but
the linesman decided that a Frome player was offside and that was the decision given
The second half saw Oxford make three early substitutions, but there was little else to report
until the 55th minute when a melee led to the booking of Frome's Brigham and Oxford's
Basham.
Ricky Hulbert stretched for a Dean Evans cross in the 65th minute but was unable to make
clean contact and the ball flew over the bar, and then Darren Bond went close for the hosts
five minutes later. The last chance of the match came in the 92nd minute as Twaine Plummer
played a good ball to Hulbert on the edge of the box, he laid the ball into Ben Thomson's path
and as he drilled the ball across the penalty area, Dean Evans arrived and steered it onto the
base of the post, but he chance went.
Kyle Tooze was chosen as the Frome man of the match.
