Frome Scorers: Tom Colleridge
Crowd: 156
A decent crowd turned out on a thankfully dry night to see a good game of football on an
excellent pitch, and although Salisbury were in the driving seat for much of the match, they
never really troubled the Frome defence, and Frome snatched a winner right at the end
through triallist Tom Colleridge
With Jamie Cheeseman still on holiday, Mike Perrott spotted a few days earlier with a plaster
cast on his right wrist and Moose twisting his knee during the warm up, Frome started with 8
of last season’s regulars and three trialists, and the match started quickly with a Salisbury goal
ruled out for offside in the 3rd minute, followed by a Dean Evans cross skimming off the
visitor’s cross bar shortly afterwards.
The match then settled into a pattern with Salisbury showing their class on the perfect playing
surface, but their neat passing game rarely troubled the Frome defence, and they failed to
carve out a chance in the first half.
Frome were also taking the chance to hone their passing skills, and although there was plenty
of neat football on show, both goalkeepers had little to do and the match was goalless at half
time.
The second half saw numerous changes on both sides, with Frome bringing on Matt Smith,
Ryan Bennett, Matt Cowler, Tom Colleridge and several other triallists, but the pattern never
really changed and the team looked comfortable throughout.
Salisbury had a half chance in the 49th minute as Chitty saved low in the corner, then Tom
Evans advanced well into the Salisbury box allowing Sparey to whip in a dangerous cross that
evaded everyone.
Matt Smith showed his class in the 62nd minute as he twisted and turned inside the Salisbury
penalty area before just curling a shot past the far post, bringing a round of applause from the
home fans.
Salisbury almost broke the deadlock in the 69th minute, but a a good Chitty save and a
desperate goal line clearance denied them, and then Frome won the match in the 87th minute
as Matt Smith jinked across the edge of the box, released the ball to Tom Colleridge and his
right foot shot flew into the top corner of the goal from 15 yards giving Puddy no real chance.
So, a good win for Frome and once again they will be tough to beat this year with the keeper
and defence looking strong and sharp. Will Tom Colleridge be the player to lead the attack this
year? He certainly brings some welcome height and aggression to the forward line, and if he
consistently takes chances like he did in this game, he might well do. Time will tell.
