Lyde U11s 1 vs 2 Frome Town U11s
Saturday 25th October 2014
The Robins made the journey to Yeovil to play Lyde Predators in a friendly. It was obvious from the early
exchanges that both teams were well matched and it was going to be a tight game.
The defence of Joe, Ruben and Freddie were composed and with Alfie in the holding midfield role they were able to
snuff out the early Lyde attacks. In midfield Gus, Olly and Harry were passing the ball well and it was no surprise that
Frome created the first chance when Harry released Gus who one on one with the keeper saw his shot go just wide.
Zach also had a chance when he beat a couple of players but again just missed the target with his shot. Lyde opened
the scoring from a corner which was flicked on and although goalkeeper Josh got a touch he couldn't prevent the ball
from crossing the line. Frome upped the pace after going behind and were the stronger team up to half time
dominating possession but unable to create any clear cut chances. At the start of the second half Frome conceded an
early penalty but the spot kick was tipped onto the post by Lucas in the Frome goal to reprieve the away side. This
seemed to spur the Robins on and Olly and Harry in particular were winning everything in midfield. With the pressure
building it was no surprise that Frome equalised when a fantastic strike from Olly from 30 yards out arrowed into the
top corner. Frome were well on top now and debutant Frasier made a great run into the box but saw his goalbound
shot blocked by a Lyde defender and a shot from Freddie just grazed the top of the crossbar. Frome eventually did
take the lead when Harry released Gus on the right and the Lyde keeper could only parry his shot to Josh who was
able to hammer the Robins second goal. Lyde did come back at Frome again but some wonderful defending from Joe,
Alfie and Ruben ensured Frome just came out on top in a game played in a wonderful spirit. MotM - Harry
Melksham Hurricanes U11s 5 vs 2 Frome Town U11s
Saturday 11th October 2014
Frome travelled to Melksham on Saturday for their latest league match but were very slow out of the blocks
and quickly found themselves 2 goals down.
After a sloppy opening 10 minutes Frome started to get a foothold in the game and Jordan in particular was starting to
pull the strings in midfield helped by Alfie and Lucas. Freddie was particularly impressive on the left and he released
Theo who saw his shot go narrowly wide. Just as Frome were building a bit of pressure they were caught on the
counter attack and Melksham bagged a third. Frome did manage to pull one back on the stroke of halftime from a free
kick which was sweetly struck by Jordan. Frome came out for the second half a revitalised team and were winning
everything. The hard working Joe was combining well on the right with Magor and Josh up front creating chances for
both these but some good defending and keeping were keeping Frome at bay. The second for Frome did eventually
come and it was the goal of the game as Luke picked up the ball on the left and after spotting the keeper off his line
produced a deft chip to pull Frome within one goal. Frome were pushing for the equiliser and Josh and Luke had
further chances but as Frome committed more players forward they were caught on the counter again by Melksham
who got their fourth. This took the wind out Frome's sails and they eventually conceded a fifth with what was the last
kick of the game. MOM – Freddie
Frome Town U11s 2 vs 1 Melksham Hurricanes
Saturday 20th September 2014
Melksham started well and were quick to put pressure on the Frome defence.
A long range effort from Melksham was parried by Freddie and the forward was first to react to give the away side an
early lead. Melksham had a gilt-edged chance to double their lead when a defensive mix-up saw their striker receive
the ball unmarked 6 yards out but inexplicably the striker chose to pass when a shot would have surely resulted in a
goal. This seemed to wake the home side up and Frome started to pass the ball around and create some chances of
their own. Joe in an unfamiliar left back role was passing the ball out of defence well and the home side had a chance
to equalise when his through ball set up Josh for a cross come-shot which was just missed by Onni on the back post.
Frome were playing well from the back and from a Melksham corner Ruben made a strong headed clearance which
found Jordan on the wing. His quick pass put Magor through but his shot was well saved by the Melksham keeper.
From the start of the second half Frome dominated. Fin and Joe were pushing up from full back and with Jordan and
Magor winning everything in midfield, Frome looked the most likely to score. When the goal came there was an
element of luck - a great run down the wing by Josh saw Theo hit a shot which the keeper was only able to parry into a
Melksham defender and the ball fell kindly to Tom who forced the ball home. Frome had their tails up and they put the
away side under a period of sustained pressure Magor was unlucky not to score when he cut inside after good work
from Josh but his low shot was well saved.
A goal was surely coming and when it did it was worth the wait - Theo picked up the ball and turning his marker he
unleashed a powerful left foot shot which flew into the bottom corner. From this moment it was all Frome and
Melksham were restricted to hopeful punts up field which were easily dealt with by a solid defence well marshalled by
Freddie in goal. In the last minute Theo was unlucky when he ran through the Melksham defence and hit a shot across
the goal which just clipped the post. This was the last action of the game and Frome ended up deserved winners. Theo
was rightly nominated as Frome's player of the day in recognition of his tireless effort and skill
